"Structural Funds - an Important Instrument for Promoting Climate Protection in Cities, Municipalities and Regions" Event at the European Sustainable Energy Week 2010 in Brussels

B.&S.U. mbH organised the  event "Structural Funds - an Important Instrument for Promoting Climate Protection in Cities, Municipalities and Regions" at the European Sustainable Energy Week 2010 on behalf of the Berlin Senate Department for Health, the Environment and Consumer Protection and the European Federation of Regional Energy and Environment Agencies.

B.&S.U. mbH developed the concept of the event and was responsible for its implementation and follow-up.

The event took place in March 2010 in Brussels and dealt with the topics of European strategies and goals in climate and cohesion policies and also with specific examples of implementation from the EU Member States.

European Parliament.

In the meeting, Ms Connie Hedegaard, the European Commissioner for Climate Action and Ms Danuta Hübner, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Committee on Regional Policy, presented European goals and strategies and programme examples were also presented, including the Berlin Environmental Relief Programme and an example from Poland.

Extensive experience with the implementation of the Structural Funds in the European Member States was collected in the previous funding periods regarding the use of this instrument for the funding of climate protection in cities, municipalities and regions. These experiences were presented at the event, particularly with regard to the development of operational programmes for the next funding period from 2014.

The Berlin Senate Department for Health, the Environment and Consumer Protection presented its many years of experience and success in the field of renovation of public infrastructure and measure to restore green open spaces in the Environmental Relief Programme to the international audience of experts and professionals, to encourage and motivate other Member States to include environmental and climate measures in their future operational programmes.

The event was particularly aimed at representatives from cities, municipalities and regions that are active in structural funds, but also at potential applicants and other interested parties.
